'We're utterly dependent on bees,' says expert

    Beekeepers across the U.S. are concerned about the disappearance of millions of honeybees. About 25 percent of the 2.4 million commercial bee colonies report heavy losses at their hives. And scientists still aren’t sure exactly why.

    Earth & Sky’s Jorge Salazar spoke with May Berenbaum, professor and head of the department of entomology at the University of Illinois in Urbana – Champaign. Berenbaum studied the status of pollinators for the National Research Council for a 2006 report. And in March of 2007 she took her findings to Congress.
