Known as the ‘banker to the poor,’ Muhammad Yunus has a vision — to end world poverty.
Yunus shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 with the Grameen bank, which he founded. Back in the 1970s, he pioneered the use of micro-credit, loans made to the poor without collateral, starting with just a few hundred dollars. Since then, The Grameen Bank has loaned more than 6 billion dollars and has a repayment rate of over 98 percent.
Dr. Yunus spoke with Earth & Sky’s Jorge Salazar from his office in Dhaka, Bangladesh about his vision, the challenges posed by climate change, and a future where poverty is something only found in a museum exhibit.
