Is science making life better for us? "Certain kinds of technologies, when irresponsibly dumped on humanity, can produce problems," said John Hockenberry. "The best example is the automobile: a two-ton hunk of metal powered by depleting energy." (Credit: Dave. Some rights reserved.)

Award-winning journalist John Hockenberry hosted a televised series called Nanotechnology: The Power of Small.

It’s part of the Fred Friendly Seminar, Nanotechnology: the power of small, being broadcast on public television stations in 2008. In it, scientists and experts talk about such things as the implications of creating devices with nanotechnology that can one day instantly monitor and treat disease using tiny machines inside one’s body. But who gets the treatment, and all that personal information?

This special Clear Voices for Science podcast was produced in cooperation with ICAN Productions and the Fred Friendly Seminars, with funding from the Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation. Go to powerofsmall.org to find out more.
