‘The most important thing is that satellite imagery is revolutionizing the way we are seeing earthquakes today. It provides a tool to make accurate measurements of what’s happening at the time of an earthquake. And this is critical information to understand better the physics of earthquakes.’ – Jean-Philippe Avouac

EarthSky’s Jeremy Shere talked with geologist Jean-Philippe Avouac about how he uses satellite imagery to study earthquakes. Avouac relies mostly on the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer – ASTER for short – aboard the NASA Terra satellite.

Our thanks to NASA‘s Terra Mission, helping us better understand and protect our home planet.
